Opening Sequence Proposal- 2.Institutions

Production
Our production company, GEMM Productions, will be a British independent company similar to Film4, who have a proven ability to work with sensitive representation issues, for example their highly critically acclaimed work on the film 12 Years A Slave (released in the UK 2014). They have also represented teenagers and young adults in Attack the Block. Film4 also produced The Inbetweeners Movie, which was enormously successful, having a budget of £3.5m and making almost £60m in box office; their ability to achieve financial success under a relatively small budget whilst aiming at our target audience of teens/young adults makes them a wise choice for our film.

Distribution

We researched distribution companies to see what sort of films different companies would be likely to distribute. Here is a mind-map of our findings:

After having researched this, we decided that our film will be distributed by StudioCanal, an experienced, successful distributor who have previously distributed many films, including other urban films such as Attack the Block.

StudioCanal has also worked on other British dramas based in London such as Fast Girls, giving them more than enough expertise at marketing to our audience geographically as well as in terms of age.
